Beta: Project Confidence Rating in Master Plans

Learn how to use and interpret the Confidence Rating in your Master Plan to assess project progression likelihood

Updated over 4 months ago

Overview

The Confidence Rating feature in the Master Plan provides a percentage score reflecting the probability of successful project progression. This score helps local authority planners identify potential gaps in their project plans and supports efforts to enhance the likelihood of projects moving forward.

What is the Confidence Rating?

The Confidence Rating is a numerical value, presented as a percentage, that assesses the likelihood of a project's progression based on various criteria submitted through the project’s details. It helps planners understand where they may need to focus more attention to increase project confidence.

Where to Find the Confidence Rating

In the Master Plan project overview table, you will find a new column labelled ‘Confidence rating (%)’. This column is located to the left of the Actions column.

Understanding the Confidence Rating

  • Each project is scored from 0 to 100 based on detailed criteria related to project readiness and robustness.

  • The percentage is calculated by converting the total score from specific project details into a percentage of a maximum possible score of 26 points.

Interpreting the Scores

  • 66-100% (Green): High confidence in project progression.

  • 33-65% (Amber): Moderate confidence, indicating potential areas for improvement.

  • 0-32% (Red): Low confidence, suggesting significant gaps that need attention.

How is the Score Calculated?

The confidence score is derived using a set of questions related to the project's specifics such as proposed dates, funding security, supplier arrangements, and necessary approvals. Here’s a brief overview of how points are allocated:

  • Proposed Date(s) of Projects: Points vary based on how soon the project is planned to start, with earlier dates scoring higher.

  • Funding Security: Points are awarded based on whether funding is secured and the type of funding route.

  • Supplier Identification: Points are given if suppliers for necessary labour and materials are identified.

  • Formal Approvals: Includes points for DNO or iDNO connection approvals and planning permissions.

  • Project Sign-off: Points awarded if the project has been formally approved.
