I have lost something, what can I do?

How can I find my lost item on iLost?

iLost is a search platform for lost and found property. Found items registered by participating organizations and private finders can be searched on iLost. Together with these finders, we help reunite lost items with their rightful owners.

Start your search at iLost.co to see whether your item has already been found.

Please note: iLost does not physically hold or manage found items. Claims are reviewed and answered by the organization or individual who registered the item, not by iLost.

Did you lose something at an organization?

More than 2,000 organizations worldwide use iLost, including public transport operators, municipalities, airports, entertainment venues, and many others.

If you lost something at a specific organization, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the organization's website.
Check its lost-and-found policy and how it handles found items.

  2. Find its iLost page.
Look for a button, link, or iLost widget on the organization's website that takes you to its dedicated iLost page.

  3. Search the found items.
On the organization's iLost page, you can search through the items it has registered. Use information such as the type of item and the date you lost it to narrow down your search.

  4. Can't find your item?
It may not have been found or registered yet. We recommend checking the page again over the next few days.

  5. Found your item? Submit a claim.
Describe why you believe the item belongs to you as specifically as possible. The organization will compare the information in your claim with the found item to determine whether you are the rightful owner.

You'll receive an email confirming your claim and further updates about its status.

Did you lose something in a public place?

If you lost your item somewhere such as a street, park, or other public area, you can search the broader iLost database. This includes found items registered by both organizations and private finders.

To search:

  1. Select the country where you lost your item.

  2. Enter a description, such as keys, wallet, bag, or phone.

  3. Enter the location where you think you lost it, such as Amsterdam, Berlin, or Brussels.

  4. Select the date or date range in which you lost the item.

  5. Review the results and open any items that could be yours.

  6. Found a possible match? Submit a claim and provide as many identifying details as possible.

Can't find your item on iLost?

If your item isn't listed yet, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't be found.

There can be some time between an item being lost, being found, and being registered on iLost. How quickly this happens depends on the finder or organization.

We recommend checking iLost again over the next few days. Keep in mind that many organizations process and register found items during business days. If you lost something over the weekend, new items may not appear until the next working day.

Send an iLost Alert

Has it been more than 3 business days since you lost your item and you still can't find it on iLost? You may have lost it at an organization that doesn't use iLost. In that case, you can create an iLost Alert.

With an iLost Alert, you can:

  • Contact organizations that don't currently use iLost to inform them about your lost item.

  • Share your lost-item message on social media to reach more people.

  • Create an insurance form with the details of your lost item.

Hopefully, your item will show up soon. Keep checking iLost, as newly found items can be added at any time.
