The packaging

We have carefully chosen the delivery packaging that we use to ensure that it meets high environmental standards. We use fully recycled/recyclable cardboard packaging.

Smart features, such as using wax rather than glue, and perforated cut out strips, help us to minimise plastic use wherever possible. Where we do need to use plastic, for example filling materials, dispensing bags or tape on larger parcels, we're working on converting these to plastic-free alternatives as soon as we can.

The dispensing bags we're now using for some orders are plant-based packaging, which uses 122% less energy to produce and has a 73% lower carbon footprint than the previous bags used by Rowlands Pharmacy. I’m green™ Bio PE, which is developed by the Brazilian producer, Braskem, captures and fixes CO2 from the atmosphere during its production, and though it is not biodegradable, the CO2 caught by the product remains fixed throughout the life cycle of the plastic, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Please be assured that our use of plastic bags is an area we're looking to improve, as Phoenix UK isn’t alone in this challenge. Our European counterparts are also looking at their bags, including biodegradable options and we hope to come up with solutions together.

Please note that we will dispense your medication in the original manufacturer packaging wherever possible - we cannot influence the composition of materials used for this packaging element within your delivery.
