High Testosterone Levels

High testosterone levels in men, why are they so high?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Higher than normal testosterone levels in a man can be due to several different reasons:

Use of anabolic steroids or testosterone supplements: These are common among some athletes and bodybuilders to increase muscle mass and performance.

Lifestyle factors:

  • Diet: A diet high in fat and low in fiber can sometimes be associated with higher testosterone levels.

  • Exercise: Intense exercise and strength training can temporarily raise testosterone levels.

Genetic factors: Some men naturally have higher levels of testosterone due to genetic variations.

Health status: Overweight and obesity can affect hormone balance and sometimes increase testosterone production, although more often it leads to lower levels.

If there is a noticeable increase in testosterone and it is accompanied by symptoms such as increased aggressiveness, rapid muscle growth, or other changes in behavior or physical condition, it may be wise to consult about this.

Medical conditions:

  • Adrenal hyperplasia: An inherited disorder that affects the adrenal glands.

  • Testicular tumors: These can secrete testosterone and thus increase levels.

Note that the scale of the test can goes up to 1000, so sometimes you can have very high levels.

If you have symptoms of low or high testosterone (e.g. fatigue, low libido, muscle loss, increased irritability, etc.), we recommend retesting in 3–6 months, especially if you’re making lifestyle changes — to monitor any shifts over time.
