Sweet potato classification

Why the Garden Planner classifies sweet potato as Solanacaeae

Updated over a week ago

Although sweet potatoes are in the Convolvulaceae family, we include them in the Solanaceae family in the Garden Planner for gardeners in North America because they suffer from several of the same soil-borne pests as potatoes found in this area (such as wireworm and nematodes).

This is mentioned in the Plant Information box for the sweet potatoes and it's the only exception we make, purely because they should not follow potatoes in crop rotation systems (and vice versa).
