Exporting Your Encryption Key

Switch to full end-to-end encryption and export your encryption key for secure storage

By default, Whistleblower Software manages the encryption key for you. If your organization requires full control over encryption, you can switch to self-managed encryption and export the key.

Once exported, the encryption key must be entered by all users every time they sign in, so it needs to be securely shared with all case handlers.

If the encryption key is lost after export, it will not be possible to restore or decrypt any case data. Store it securely outside the platform, for example in a password manager.

How to Export Your Encryption Key

Step 1

Go to Settings > Security. Under System encryption (Advanced), click Full end-to-end encryption.

Step 2

Click Export encryption key.

Step 3

Note down the encryption key shown on screen and export it as a PDF by clicking Confirm export. Store this PDF securely. This is the only copy.

Step 4

Confirm the export by entering the encryption key once more and clicking Confirm export again.

During this process, a new RSA encryption key is generated, and all existing encryption keys in the system are re-encrypted using the new key.

Step 5

From this point forward, all users will be prompted to enter the encryption key each time they log in. Share the key securely with all case handlers and users who needs to access the account, for example through your organization's password manager.
