How and when to use the Convert Money function in a Business Rule

The Convert Money Function is one of the 44 functions available in the business rules calculation. It is a useful function to use especially when creating business rules for Cost Estimates and Compensation Calculations line items when the output type must used "Money". The Convert Money Function converts a selected amount to a specific currency by multiplying it by the another Equus function - Exchange Rate Get.

For any money field, a money icon

appears besides it. When the cursor is placed over the icon, a warning appears: "You are adding a money field without using the Convert Money function, which means you may end comparing and calculating amounts in different currencies". Note that this is only a warning and will always appear next to money field whether the field requires the function or not.

To use the Convert Money function, click on the icon.

And the Functions pop up window is opened for the Convert Money function. Enter the Name and select the Data Sources for the mandatory parameters. Note that the Amount parameter is automatically populated.

Once the Name and required parameter fields are populated. Press the [Save] button to return to the new business rules calculation screen.

Note that the money icon no longer appears beside the field because the field is no longer an amount field but has changed to a function field.
