Users with the appropriate page rights can create and modify internal dashboard layouts. Depending on their security settings, internal users can then select from these configured dashboard layouts.
A dashboard layout consists of a group of widgets and their positional layout on a page. Widget can be arranged using a grid format that arranges items based on a specific row and column sequence or using a flow layout that arranges widgets based on size and sequence.
Each Dashboard Layout can be associated with a given page, which then makes that layout available to users to select as their preferred Dashboard Layout when on that page. WARNING! When selecting the Page for the Dashboard Layout to be available on, consider if the page is a ‘pass through’ page that users will be hitting often as they navigate around the system. Consider the possible performance implications of adding Dashboard Layouts to those pages and consider setting the Dashboard Layout on a more specific page. For example, rather than adding a dashboard layout to the Company page, you may want to add it to the Payroll Systems page.
Dashboard Layouts can also be configured with Data Sensitivity, users who do not possess the appropriate sensitivity will not be able to see or select these Dashboard Layouts.
Dashboard Layouts are shared among all internal users in the system. As such, if a Dashboard Layout is edited, all users who have picked that layout will receive the changes automatically. Likewise, if a Dashboard Layout is deleted or the Data Sensitivity of a layout is changed users will no longer see or be able to select that layout.
Dashboard Layout Screen
The Dashboard Layout screen is located on the Configuration tab under the Templates menu section. This screen allows for the creation of the various Dashboard Layouts available for users to select. The Dashboard Layouts grid lists the dashboard layouts present in the system.
New
Clicking + icon will allow the user to create a new Dashboard Layout.
View / Edit
The pencil icon will allow the user to review, edit, copy, or delete an existing Dashboard Layout.
Inactive
Marking a Dashboard Layout as Inactive will remove the layout from the Available Dashboard Layout picker on the Home screen or any page dashboard layouts have been configured for, and prevent users from selecting the inactive Dashboard Layout. Setting a Dashboard Layout as Inactive will not remove or disable the Dashboard Layout for users who currently have that Dashboard Layout selected.
Name
The name given to the Dashboard Layout is the Name that will appear in the Available Dashboard Layout picker.
Description
A more detailed description of the Dashboard Layout can be entered here.
Page
Each Dashboard Layout must be associated with a Page. Selecting "Portal Dashboard" will enable the layout for selection on the company-level Portal Configuration screen where it can then be made visible for particular portal user types. For internal pages, the value selected here will make the specified layout available for selection on the given page (subject to Data Sensitivity restrictions). Internal users will have a layout picker icon available to select which layout they want. If a default layout is set for any given page, that layout will be displayed regardless if a user selects a layout or not. The default can be overridden for a given user if the user selects another layout for the page.
Widget Placement
This field determines how widgets will be displayed within a dashboard. Options for Widget Placement are Grid or Size. WARNING! When changing a dashboard from one Widget Placement to the other (e.g. Grid to Size or Size to Grid), all widgets on the dashboard will be removed and will need to be re-added.
When Grid is selected, the dashboard layout will display the selected widgets in grid rows and columns. When Size is selected, the dashboard will display the selected widgets in the sequence provided by the user, arranged in such a way as to minimize white space. At times, this may result widgets appearing out of sequence order to better fill available spaces. For more information about options for widget placement, see the Widgets section below.
Default Layout
Only one Dashboard Layout can be designated as the Default Layout for a particular Page. If a Dashboard Layout has been selected as the Default Layout for an internal page, this layout will be displayed to all users who do not already have a layout selected. This setting has no effect if the Page selected is "Portal Dashboard" because portal users are shown the layout selected for them on the company-level Portal Configuration screen and are prevented from changing this selection.
Data Sensitivity
Certain widgets may display sensitive data, and the Data Sensitivity setting allows the access to the Dashboard Layout to be limited to users with the appropriate access. Those restricted Dashboard Layouts will not be displayed to users who lack the appropriate access.
System Layout
This field is only displayed for layouts that have been produced by Equus for a specific purpose. To prevent System Layouts from being modified, all fields with the exception of the Inactive and Default Layout fields are made read-only. The ability to delete System Layouts has also been removed. Mark these layouts as Inactive if you do not wish to see them as layout selection options.
Widgets
When adding or editing a dashboard layout, the widget grid will be displayed. Options in this field vary based on the selection made in the Widget Placement field. This grid allows users to add or remove widgets from the dashboard layout definition and determine how those widgets are displayed.
When the Widget Placement Field is set to Grid, the following fields appear in the Widgets grid:
New
This button will allow the addition of a new widget to the Dashboard Layout.
Delete
This checkbox is used to remove a widget from the Dashboard Layout. Ticking Delete and clicking [Save] will remove the widget from the Dashboard Layout.
Widget
This drop down list includes the available widgets that can be added to a Dashboard Layout. For additional information on each available widget please see Dashboard Widget section below.
Row
This setting will specify the layout of the widgets. The widget layouts are essentially laid out in a grid of rows and columns on the screen. The Row indicates the horizontal placement of the widget. Note: If you add widgets to the same row, they will stack one under the other, as closely as possible, according to the Sequence given. Conversely, if you specify a new Row for each pair of widgets, they will align horizontally but there may be a vertical gap between widgets if the widget in one Column is taller than the widget in the other Column. Also note, it you only specify one widget in a Row, it will span the entire row; conversely adding multiple widgets to a Row in different Columns will cause the widgets to shrink to the column width. Some widgets may not grow/shrink as you’d expect so you may want to check your dashboard once configured.
Column
This setting will specify the layout of the widgets. The Column is the corresponding vertical placement to the Row entered. Generally, widgets fit nicely in up to 3 columns.
Sequence
This specifies the order of the widgets on the screen. When multiple widgets share the same Row and Column in the Dashboard Layout, the Sequence dictates the order that those widgets appear on the screen.
When the Widget Placement field is set to Size the following fields appear in the Widgets grid:
New
This button will allow the addition of a new widget to the Dashboard Layout.
Width
This drop down list allows users to configure the relative width of a widget.
Height
This drop down list allows users to configure the relative height of a widget.
Sequence
This specifies the order of the widgets on the dashboard. Because Size based placement arranges items in such a way as to minimize white space, occasionally a widget may appear out of sequence if it is the necessary size to fill an empty space.
Shrink to Fit
When Shrink to Fit is selected for a given widget, the size of the widget will decrease to fit the data being presented. If Shrink to Fit is not selected, the widget will always display in the Height selected.
Save
After configuring your Dashboard Layout, this button will save the configuration.
Copy
This button creates a copy of the layout and all its configurations, and when a layout is copied, it will set the copied layout to inactive by default. Copying Equus standard layouts is possible.
Delete
This button will delete the Dashboard Layout and all its configuration.
Close
This button will close the Dashboard Layout that is being configured and will return to the main Dashboard Layouts Screen in the Configuration level.
