Introduction
A licence pool is where you manage the day-to-day usage of your licences by encoders. We create one for you (Default Pool), but for more complex licence management, you can create your own and divide your licences into different pools based on your specific use case.
For example:
You have made three different purchases for three different end-customers and wish to keep each customer's licences separate.
You have licences of different durations and want to make sure the newest encoders use licences from the correct sales order.
You want to partition your licences into different uses/areas/devices (e.g. half the licences for the west coast, half for the east).
To help facilitate the management of licences, we allow you to...
Create and name your own pools
Move licences from your Default Pool into your new pool
Register your server/domain with the new pool
Your encoders acquire licences from the new pool instead of the Default Pool.
How to use custom pools
Once you log into CLS, open your estate, then use the See all pools button to view your pools. By default, there will be only one - the Default Pool:
Notice how your default pool lists all your available licences and how many are in use. All new licence purchases go into the Default Pool automatically when purchased.
Use the Add pool button to begin. The first question is to name the pool - enter something that best describes the purpose of the pool:
After entering a name, you will be able to select which licences to move into your new pool from the Default Pool:
Each individual licence purchase (with its Sales Order number) is listed so that you can select licences from a specific purchase to be used in a specific pool. Use the right-hand controls to enter the amounts of licences to move from each licence entry. You can only allocate licences to a pool if they are currently unused.
Once complete, your new pool will be created, and licences moved. Go to the Pools page again - you will now see two pools:
The new pool has been created, and you can now see that the licence count for the Default Pool has been reduced by the same amount as the licence count now shown under the new pool.
The final step is to authenticate your server/domain with the new pool. Click on the pool, and then use the Authenticate server/domain button to create your 8-digit authentication code that you use during the authentication process.
