Electric bike range

When you rent an e-bike, the battery level is more than just a percentage—it is a prediction of your potential travel distance. To help you plan your journey, the Donkey Republic app provides a range estimate based on current battery health.

🔋 Understanding Your Range

While the app shows a maximum estimate, your actual distance depends on several real-world variables. The harder the motor has to work, the faster the battery will deplete.

🚩 Key Factors Affecting Battery Life

  • Weight & Cargo: Heavier loads (rider + bags) require more torque from the motor, which "burns" more energy.

  • Terrain & Hills: Steep inclines are the biggest drain on an e-bike battery. Frequent hill climbing will significantly shorten your predicted range compared to flat city cruising.

  • Weather Conditions: * Wind: Battling a strong headwind increases air resistance, forcing the motor to consume more power to maintain speed.

  • Temperature: Very cold weather (below 5°C) reduces the chemical efficiency of the battery cells, meaning you will get fewer kilometers per charge in the winter.

💡 Pro-Tips for E-Bike Success

  • Check Before You Walk: Always tap the bike icon in the app to check the battery percentage before you walk to the hub.

  • The "Safety Buffer": If the app estimates a 20 km range and your destination is 15 km away, consider the weather and terrain. If it's a windy or hilly day, look for a bike with at least 30% more charge than you think you need.
