Step 11 of 18: Change the Counterweight Location and Adjust Its Pulley Beam

A2.11: Counterweight Location and Settings

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • You've worked through the general practical examples (rail brackets, door mountings, platforms, panels).

Steps

Preparation: create the practice project

1.) Create and save the practice project. Using the Shaft Wizard, create a project with:

  • 5 floors, typical floor-to-floor distance 3000 mm

  • Consider travel: No; Create building floor levels: No

  • Traction elevator 2:1

  • 8 persons / 630 kg, 1 m/s

  • MRL, top

  • Car roping 2 pulleys below, without CW safety gear

  • Counterweight roping 1 pulley top, counterweight right

  • Sheet templates LD Installation Drawing and LD Typical Views For Your Elevator

  • Car width 1100 mm, car depth 1400 mm

  • Entrances front on all floors, no rear entrance

  • Pit 1200 mm, E1 2900 mm, E2 3000 mm, E3 3000 mm, E4 3800 mm

  • Save it as LDTrainingSampleA2_02.ld3.

Counterweight location

2.) Open the Rope Wizard. For existing projects, change the counterweight location to another wall side via the Rope Wizard — activate it via the traction machine, counterweight, pulley, or pulley beam properties. If your project isn't far advanced, it's usually cleaner to create a new project with the Shaft Wizard and choose a different counterweight position there.

3.) Reposition the counterweight in step 4 of 5.

Pitfall: No logic automatically swaps other components or positions (such as the doors) when you move the counterweight — set these manually.

4.) Adjust the distance between the centers. Change it in the properties of the parent counterweight object, or directly via the corresponding dimension in the drawing.

Counterweight pulley beam settings

5.) Open the pulley beam properties. After moving the counterweight, check the rope alignment and adjust the pulley beam. Common-component pulley beams have no geometry by default, so select them via the pulley beam link in the Breadcrumb window — for example, starting from one of the subordinate pulleys.

6.) Adapt the arrangement. Change the pulley beam angle.

7.) Adapt the position. Use the counterweight frame properties.

Result

The counterweight is moved to another wall side via the Rope Wizard, its center distance is adjusted, and the counterweight pulley beam is realigned to match.
