Step 13 of 13: Sheet Template - Practice

B1.13: Summary and final exercises

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The full dimensions, prefixes, overwrites, and sheet-group workflow from this tutorial.

  • The LDTrainingSample.ld3 project from the first step.

Steps

1.) Practice chain dimensions. In LDTrainingSample.ld3, switch to the My Views sheet and change the following dimension values: SD 2600 mm, SW 1900 mm, CD 2000 mm, CW 1200 mm.

2.) Practice dimension properties and dynamic dimensions. Create a new sheet including a Plan View, two Entrance Views (one from the front, one from the side), and a Machine Room View. For these views: reorganize the dimension chains using dimension IDs; remove unnecessary dimensions; adapt dimension extension lines and arrows; align dimension chains horizontally and vertically; change local dimension prefixes where necessary; and create your own dynamic dimensions.

3.) *Practice the Operator. Open the Overwrites window, then create a project with entrances on the front and rear of the shaft, and add a vertical view to the left side. Delete the bottom landing door at the front wall, and look up the new entry for that delete operation in the Overwrites window. Assign the same delete operation to all landing doors on the front and rear walls using a *operation. Then add 2 new floors via the Floor Level dialog and activate the entrances on the front and rear walls, confirming the *operation still applies correctly to the new floors.

Result

You've practiced the full range of this tutorial's techniques: adjusting chain dimensions directly, building a new sheet's dimension layout from scratch, and using the Overwrites window with a *operation to apply one change across every matching door — including newly added floors.

Tutorial complete

This was the final step of the B1 Sheet Templates tutorial. You've covered dimensions (editable, resulting, chain), dimension layout and properties, dimension prefixes (including Data tree references and messages), dimension representation, dynamic dimensions, overwrites and *operations, managing sheet groups, and worked through a complete practice exercise combining all of it.
