Prerequisites
You can add global and view-frame-related dimension prefixes, including the special placeholder syntax and Data tree/message combinations.
Pitfall: By default, a dimension disappears from the drawing if it's missing one of its geometry edges — for example, because of a detail section. Choose the display option for that dimension before the detail section is created, not after.
Steps
1.) Choose the additional dimension display option for detail sections. Options are:
Default — both edges of the referenced geometry are visible.
1 point out — only one edge of the referenced geometry is visible (typical for a detail section view).
2 points out — neither edge of the referenced geometry is visible (also typical for a detail section view).
2.) Cut the extension line at the geometric limit. Activate this additional display option to cut the dimension's extension line at the detail section edge.
3.) Set a dimension's background color. Via the dimension's Properties, set Background Mask to Use Colour, then choose a color.
Result
Dimensions in detail sections display correctly even when their geometry edges are cut off, and you can set a dimension's own background color.
