Step 5 of 13: Select Dimensions and Understand Dimension IDs

B1.5: Dimension Properties - Dimension-ID

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • You know the available dimension layout operations, the extension-line setting hierarchy, and how to adjust (and reset) dimension text heights and chain distances.

Steps

1.) Select a single dimension. Click a dimension in the drawing to display its properties.

2.) Select multiple dimensions. When selecting more than one dimension, only layout-specific properties (shared by all of them) are displayed.

3.) Understand dimension IDs. The dimension alignment is determined by dimension IDs — each can be changed individually. In general, the larger the ID, the greater the distance from the geometry; the largest ID is effectively the last chain dimension, and the lowest sits closest to the shaft geometry. If a dimension was moved manually, the query for its Dimension ID is interrupted.

Result

You can select single or multiple dimensions to see their shared properties, and understand how dimension IDs control a chain's ordering and distance from the geometry.
