Step 11 of 14: Create a New User Component (Corner Profile)

EL1.11: Steel Shaft Practical Example

Written by Alexandra Göttert

The target result for this step is a set of corner profiles.

Prerequisites

  • The wall opening exists.

Steps

1.) Insert a new child object. Select the shaft as the parent component, then click Add new under the Additional Child Objects entry.

2.) Choose the profile type. Via the Navigator dialog, choose Variable Profiles → I-Type, Vertical. The insertion point is the parent component's base point.

3.) Assign the component group. Assign the component group this profile should be part of — equal to the Component Visibility group. This can also be set via the new profile's Properties.

4.) Define the designation and color. Via the profile Properties, set a designation (e.g. "Corner profile 1") and a color (e.g. RID 25000). It's recommended to work in Design Mode when inserting an additional child object related to the shaft — the object is inserted at the shaft's base point.

5.) Define the size and position. Size uses fixed values. Position uses fixed values, a 3D parameter, or an equation of both.

6.) Copy and rename to create the remaining corner profiles. Select the parent component again and repeat the steps above, using Copy and Rename instead of starting from scratch. Define each profile's position via its location properties, using 3D parameters (e.g. based on the shaft size).

Result

A set of corner profiles exists as additional child objects on the shaft, each correctly grouped, named, colored, sized, and positioned.
