Step 5 of 13: Prepare the Datamanager for a User Component

PL5.5: Preparation Steps in DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Part of the sequential Drives tutorial. Complete the previous steps first. This begins the work of creating a low-LOD user component — a simplified stand-in for the CAD model that can be reused across different gears from the same manufacturer, since it represents the profiles that don't change between them.

Prerequisites

  • The traction machine with its CAD model is saved.

Steps

1.) Add a record for the new user component. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, add a record for a new user component, along with a record for a new profile it will contain.

2.) Edit the meta data for the gear's user PGs. Fill in the gear's meta data for its user profile-group (PG) columns.

3.) Understand what each user PG represents. Each GP_USER_PG_nn column corresponds to a specific measurement point on the CAD model — for example, distances between mounting features on the gear housing. Use the explanation drawing to see which point each column maps to before filling in values.

4.) Fill in the user PG values for your gear. Enter the measured values for each user PG column, matching the points identified in the previous sub-step.

5.) Review the remaining user PG explanations. Continue through the rest of the user PG columns relevant to your gear, confirming each one's meaning before moving on. [ Screenshot: Additional user PG explanations ]

Result

The Datamanager has a user component record and profile prepared, with its user PG columns filled in to match the specific measurements of your gear's CAD model.
