Step 12 of 14: Define and Assign New Product Options to CAD Occurrences

PL3.12: Create Product Options to your Car Frame

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The car frame is finished and saved with its CAD models in place.

  • The converted part of the car frame reshapes itself automatically with the cabin width, instead of staying fixed like a plain CAD model.

  • The car frame's less important detail (such as screw connections) is hidden or simplified at lower LOD levels.

Steps

1.) Define new product options via the profile group. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, open the car frame's profile group and switch to the Global sub grouping tab. Add a record per option you need — for example, "Traveling cable left" and "Traveling cable right." Selecting the tab again saves the new content.

2.) Assign the product options to individual occurrences. In DigiPara Liftdesigner, select the relevant occurrence in the Occurrences docking window and, in its Properties window under [0300] Occurrence state, set This Object belongs to Product Option to the matching option from step 1.

3.) View the created product options relative to the parent BIM component. Confirm, from the parent component's own Properties window, that the product options you created are listed as belonging to it.

4.) Check the new product options via Options and Rules. Open the Options and Rules docking window and confirm the new options appear there, and can be switched on or off with a check mark.

5.) Customize the existing, copied positioning points for the new product options. In Datamanager, review the car frame's existing (copied) positioning points and update them so they correctly reflect the new product options — for example, so the correct traveling-cable-side point is used depending on which option is active.

6.) Reload the car frame in DigiPara Liftdesigner. Make sure you're no longer in Edit Mode, then reload the car frame by re-entering its RID in the Properties window (under [4210] Product Administration), so it picks up the changes you just made in the Datamanager.

Result

The car frame now has product options tied to specific CAD occurrences, correctly reflected in its positioning points, and toggleable from the Options and Rules docking window.
