Step 3 of 7: Modify the Car Frame's 3D Geometry

PL2.3: Modify the 3D Geometry in DigiPara Liftdesigner

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • Car frame is open in the Developer Work Area.

Expected result

By the end of the following steps, some of the car frame's existing profiles are resized/repositioned, some unneeded profiles are removed, and new profiles are added — for example, new top profiles and a modified lower construction assembly.

Steps

1.) Customize an existing profile's size. Select a profile and, in its Properties window, adjust [0516] Size — for example setting DZ [mm]: PDZ to a user-defined parameter such as P50 (a placeholder for the car frame's upper profile height). Formulas and values can be copied from one profile to another directly in the Properties window (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V).

2.) Customize the same profile's position. Under [0517] Position, set X0, Y0, Z0 using fixed values, 3D parameters, or equations — again reusing P50 where the upper profile height is needed.

3.) Save the car frame into the DigiPara BIM Library. On the Develop BIM Components ribbon tab, click Save this BIM Component → Update the existing BIM component. Do this now, and again after each further round of changes below.

4.) Create and apply a second user-defined 3D parameter for the lower profile height. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, open the car frame's row and type a value into the next empty, gray CFD_USER_PG_nn column (e.g. 496 into CFD_USER_PG_51) — this becomes parameter P51, the lower profile height. Make sure you are no longer in Edit Mode afterward.

Then reload the car frame in Liftdesigner: open its Properties window, find the RID field under [4210] Product Administration, and re-type the same RID value to force a reload. Apply P51 to the relevant profile's size field the same way you applied P50 in step 1.

5.) Continue customizing existing profiles' position and size & position. Working from the Develop BIM Components ribbon tab, keep refining the remaining existing profiles' Position, and Size & Position together where both need to change at once, following the same Properties-window approach as steps 1–2.

  • Adjusting the orientation

  • Customize size and position

6.) Delete profiles you no longer need. Select the profile in the 3D view and click Delete Selected Objects on the Start ribbon tab.

7.) Add and customize new profiles. Click Add Profile on the Develop BIM Components ribbon tab — the new profile appears at the car frame's base point. Set its Type (shape) in the Properties window, then its Orientation using the X/Y/Z orientation buttons, and finally its Size & Position.

8.) Copy an existing profile and reverse the signs for its mirrored counterpart. Select a finished profile and press Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V to paste a copy. Reposition the copy by reversing the signs in its existing position formula (e.g. -0.5*FW + 134 - WD - CF_CAR_2_GUIDES becomes +0.5*FW ...) rather than writing a new formula from scratch.

Result

The car frame's profiles now match the target shape: resized and repositioned existing profiles, unneeded profiles removed, new profiles added and customized, and mirrored profiles created by copying and reversing signs.
