Main IPC codes

This chart shows a heatmap that provides an overview of the primary IPC codes used within the analyzed patents.

Each box in the chart corresponds to a unique code, ordered by name, showing their patent families count and the percentage relative to the total number of patent families. The color intensity of each box intensifies with the increasing number of patent families.

Suggestion:

Observe the color intensity in the heatmap to identify performing sections with higher patent family counts. Darker colors indicate areas of greater patenting activity and may signify promising technological areas.

IPC codes over time

This heatmap shows how the main IPC sections used (e.g., A= Human Necessities, G = Physics, etc.) in your analyzed results over time.
The horizontal axis shows the priority year, while the vertical axis the main IPC sections. Each box represent the number of patent families for that specific priority year and code.

Suggestion:

You can click on a IPC code letter to further zoom into its subclasses. You can repeat this by clicking on the respective class to further zoom in. This helps to better understand changes in the use of IPC over time.

IPC codes and similarity

This chart shows you which IPC codes might be the most relevant amongst your patent portfolio.
The bars are sorted by number of patent families using the code displayed on the horizontal axis. Additionally, you will find an orange line on the graph, running alongside the bars, showing the average similarity score between your search and the patent families using this IPC code.

Suggestion:

While the number of times an IPC code is used is more conclusive on the whole portfolio, the peaks of the orange curve will show you which codes are the most similar to your search. This way, you can also identify documents that may have been misclassified or analyze results based on them sharing an IPC with one of your high-ranked results.

Top IPC combinations

This chart shows you which combinations of two IPC codes might be the most relevant amongst your patent portfolio. The bars are sorted by number of patent families using the class-combinations displayed on the horizontal axis. Additionally, you will find an orange line on the graph, running alongside the bars, showing the average similarity score between your search and the patent families using these IPC codes.

Suggestion:

While the number of times the IPC codes are used is more conclusive on the whole portfolio, the peaks of the orange curve will show you which class-combinations are most similar to your input. This way, you can also identify IPC codes you may not yet have considered for your search.
