Here’s a step-by-step explanation of the GVC renewal process:
Step 1: Eligibility
If your GVC Certificate Has Expired:
You cannot renew directly. You must pay for and complete a full GVC course.
Ensure you book the renewal process while your GVC certificate is still valid to avoid this.
If your GVC Certificate Expires Within 6 Months:
You are eligible to start the renewal process. Renewal exams can only be conducted within the six-month period before the expiry date.
If your GVC Certificate Does Not Expire Within 6 Months:
You are not yet eligible to begin the renewal process.
Step 2: Take the GVC Theory Exam
You must complete a GVC theory exam as part of the renewal process.
If You Pass:
You can proceed to Step 3.
If You Fail:
You must complete a GVC theory course and retake the theory exam.
Retakes will use an alternate question set.
You are allowed a maximum of 5 attempts at the theory exam.
If You Fail All 5 Attempts:
You must purchase and complete a full GVC course as if you were a new candidate.
Step 3: Submit Required Evidence
To renew your GVC certificate, you must provide evidence of the following:
Flight Logbook:
Show evidence of at least 2 hours of flying within the last 90 days.
If your GVC certificate covers both Multirotor and Fixed Wing operations, provide evidence of 2 hours for each type (totalling 4 hours).
Your flight logs must include:
Flight reference
Operation category
Date
Aircraft make, model, and ID
Take-off and landing times
Flight duration
Location and airspace class
Remote pilot name
Type of flight
Incident(s), if any
Valid Flyer ID:
Provide a current Flyer ID issued by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Proof of Identification:
Provide a valid ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
Current GVC Certificate:
Provide a valid GVC certificate.
Step 4: Review and Issue of New Certificate
If All Evidence Is Approved:
A new GVC certificate will be issued with an expiry date 5 years from the current certificate's expiry.
If you can't provide all the required evidence or it doesn't get approved:
You must pass a practical flight assessment to receive a new GVC certificate.
Practical Flight Assessment
If required, you must pass a practical flight assessment.
If You Pass:
A new GVC certificate will be issued with an expiry date 5 years from the current certificate's expiry.
If You Fail:
You may retake the practical flight assessment, with a maximum of 3 attempts allowed.
If You Fail All 3 Attempts:
You must purchase and complete a full GVC course as if you were a new candidate.
