Annotating images in the mobile app

Draw on photos, add shapes, and measure distances on images attached to a record, right from the mobile app.

The mobile app lets you mark up images attached to a record without leaving Commusoft. Draw freehand, add shapes, or measure distances directly on a photo. It's a fast way to highlight a fault, flag an install location, or record a measurement on site.

How to annotate an image

➡️ Tap your record's Menu > Attached files

Open the image you want to mark up, tap Edit in the top right and then tap Edit again.

The image opens in the editing screen, with three tools along the bottom: Brush, Shapes, and Ruler.

Tap undo or redo at the top at any time. Tap Save to keep your changes, or Discard to exit without saving.

Important: Saving replaces the original image on the record with your annotated version — the unmarked original isn't kept. Tap Discard if you want to leave the image as it is.

Draw freehand with the Brush tool

  1. Tap the Brush tool.

  2. Choose a brush width from the options along the bottom.

  3. Choose a color from the palette on the right: white, black, red, green, or blue.

  4. Draw on the image with your finger.

Add a shape

  1. Tap the Shapes tool.

  2. Choose a shape: straight line, box, or circle.

  3. Choose a color from the palette.

  4. Drag on the image to draw it. For a line, drag from the start point to the end point. For a box, drag to set its size. For a circle, drag to set its radius.

Measure a distance with the Ruler tool

  1. Tap the Ruler tool.

  2. Drag from the start point to the end point. A line is drawn between them.

  3. In the Measurement popup, enter the distance in the Input measurement field.

  4. Choose a unit from the dropdown: mm, cm, m, inch, or ft. The default is meters, and changing the unit converts the value automatically.

  5. Tap Save.

  6. The measurement appears as a label on the line.

Measure with a Bosch laser measure

Connect a Bosch laser measure over Bluetooth to pull a reading straight into the measurement, instead of typing it.

  1. In the Measurement popup, tap Connect to Bosch laser measurer.

  2. On the Connect bluetooth screen, turn on Bluetooth on your Bosch device. It then appears under Available devices.

  3. Tap your device to connect.

  4. Take a reading on the device. The readings appear as selectable values in the popup.

  5. Tap the value you want, then tap Save. The Bosch returns readings in meters, so change the unit if you need a different one.

Note: First time connecting? You may be asked to allow Bluetooth access before pairing your device.
