Skills help you track what your technicians are qualified to do. Set up skills, like plumbing or electrical, to quickly filter and select the right technician when scheduling jobs or creating opportunities.
Add a skill
You can create as many skills as you need to match the services your business offers.
Navigate to your Profile icon → Settings.
Locate Users in the Categories menu, then click View next to Skills.
Type the name of the new skill in the Skill field.
Click Save.
Tip: Skills can be as broad or specific as you need, for example, "Heat pump installation", to easily identify and assign qualified technicians from your schedule for specialized jobs.
Reorder existing skills
Your list of skills appears on the right side of the screen. The order of skills in this list determines the order they appear in dropdown menus throughout Commusoft.
Navigate to your Profile icon → Settings.
Locate Users in the Categories menu, then click View next to Skills.
Click and hold the skill you want to move.
Drag and drop it into the new position.
Edit a skill
If you need to rename a skill, you can update it directly in the list. This updates the skill name everywhere it is currently used.
Navigate to your Profile icon → Settings.
Locate Users in the Categories menu, then click View next to Skills.
Find the skill you want to update in the existing skills list.
Click Edit next to the skill name.
Make your changes in the field that appears.
Click Save skill.
Delete or archive a skill
You can remove skills that are no longer needed. The system handles this differently depending on whether the skill is currently assigned to a user or job template.
Navigate to your Profile icon → Settings.
Locate Users in the Categories menu, then click View next to Skills.
Find the skill you want to remove in the existing skills list.
Click Delete.
Follow the prompt based on the skill's current status:
If the skill is not in use: The system prompts you to confirm permanent deletion. Type delete, then click delete again.
If the skill is in use: The Archive Skill pop-up appears, explaining it cannot be deleted. Type archive, then click archive.
Note: Archiving a skill removes it from selection in menus but retains historical data. This prevents you from deleting skills that are linked to past jobs or current users.
What's next?
Once your skills are set up, assign them to your technicians and job templates to match the right person to the right job.
Assign skills to your users via their user profiles.
Assign skills to your job description templates to link them to specific types of work.
Manually assign a skill when creating a new opportunity for a customner.
