Using skills ensures that only qualified engineers are assigned to jobs that match their expertise. You can create skills such as "Installations" or "Repairs" and assign them to both your engineers and your job description templates. This prevents scheduling errors and helps you send the right engineer to the right job.

You can add unlimited skills to your system. These will appear in menus when setting up users or job descriptions.
Type the name of the new skill in the Skill field
Click Save
Managing existing skills
Your list of skills appears on the right side of the screen. The order of skills in this list determines the order they appear in dropdown menus throughout Commusoft.
To re-order your skills, click and hold the skill you want to move, then drag and drop it into the new position.
Editing a skill
If you need to rename a skill, you can update it directly in the list. This updates the skill name everywhere it is currently used.
Find the skill you want to update in the existing skills list
Click Edit next to the skill name
Make your changes in the field that appears
Click Save skill
Deleting or archiving a skill
You can remove skills that are no longer needed. The system handles this differently depending on whether the skill is currently assigned to a user or job template.
Find the skill you want to remove in the Existing skills list
Click Delete
The system will check if the skill is currently in use
If the skill is not in use, you will be prompted to confirm its permanent deletion. Type delete, then click delete again.
If the skill is in use, the 'Archive Skill' pop-gup will appear, explaining it cannot be deleted. Type archive, then click archive.
Archiving a skill removes it from selection in menus but retains its historical data. This prevents you from deleting skills that are linked to past jobs or current users.
What's next?
Once your skills are set up, the next step is to assign them to your engineers and job templates. This allows the system to match the right person to the right job.
Assign skills to your users via their user profiles.
Assign skills to your job description templates to link them to specific types of work.
