Get Data Set

The Get Data Set Assistant allows you to retrieve data from a partner EDC with a series of guided steps.

Updated this week

Reusing data from business partners and secure sharing of assets is one of the main benefits of the Cofinity-X Network.

The assistant Get Data Set will guide you through the following:

  • Selecting your dataspace and the EDC which will store / keep the received data.

  • Selecting the desired assets from your business partner.

  • Initiate negotiations to view the requested data.

  • Initiate the data transfer.

Requirements

Make sure you have finished the initial setup (see Initial Setup for the Catena-X Dataspace) and that you have finished all prior steps within this guide (see Journey to Seamless Data Exchange).

To get a data set from partners, make sure you have the Business Partner Number (BPN) ready from your operating partner. In addition, you can also view the partner's catalog using a specific endpoint URL - if provided by the partner.

Step 1 - Start the Process

  1. Navigate to Data Exchange > Get Data Set.

  2. Select the dataspace from the dropdown.
This dataspace will store the received data set.

  3. Select Continue to proceed to the next step.

Step 2 - Select your Eclipse Dataspace Connector (EDC)

  1. From the list select your EDC which connects to the received data set.

  2. Select Continue to proceed to the next step.

Step 3 - Select the Business Partner and the Assets

There are two options to select the business partner and the assets:

  • Search by BPN - This will provide a catalog of all available assets.

  • Enter the Catalog URL - This will provide a specific catalog with assets.

The visibility of assets depends on the set up policies (see Define Policies for Contracts) by you and your partners.

Option 1 - Search by BPN

  1. Switch on Search BPN.

  2. Select the Business Partner from the dropdown.

  3. From the list select the desired asset.

  4. Select Continue to proceed to the next step.

Option 2: Enter the Catalog URL

  1. Switch on Enter catalog URL.

  2. Enter the partner's EDC URL. Make sure to add the DSP endpoint at the end of the EDC URL /api/v1/dsp (see EDC URL with DSP Endpoint).

  3. Enter the provider's business partner BPN in Counter Party BPN.

  4. Select the desired asset.

  5. Select Continue to proceed to the next step.

Step 4 - Initiate Negotiation

  1. Fill in a meaningful Contract Negotiation Description.

  2. Select Initiate Negotiation.
The EDC will check if you as a consumer have permission to view the selected asset.

  3. Select Continue to proceed to the next step.

Step 5 - Initiate the Data Transfer

If you and your partner have the correct permissions and policies, you can proceed to initiate the data transfer.

  1. Fill in a meaningful Data Transfer Description.

  2. Select Continue.

  3. View and download the asset.

You can monitor all data transfers with Transfers.
