Overview

The Data Reliability Alerts feature detects when data points are in an "Error" state and notifies the user. A data point with the "Error" state means that the point's history has not been updated in an expected period of time.

A set of Data Reliability variables on a data point is required:

  • Actual Freshness of Data - The time since the data point was last populated with history.

  • Expected Freshness of Data - The expected time between updates in data point history.

  • Tolerance - The amount of time above the Expected Freshness that needs to elapse before the data point is deemed “stale” or no longer fresh.

This information is shown in the detail screen of each point in the tables on the left-hand side under the heading of “Data Reliability”. These are Data Reliability variables.

Data Reliability Settings

These are applied using the “Data Reliability Settings” modal. This is accessed via the Actions menu from within the detailed screen of a particular point or from the Actions menu on the Data Management screen.

A user can select a single or multiple points from the data management list and then apply reliability settings to all of the selected points in bulk.

The user will be notified if all points were successfully updated and if some were not successful, the user can “retry” on the points that failed to update.

Status

Once a data point's Actual Freshness is greater than the Expected Freshness plus the Tolerance the point will be given a status of “Error”. This means that the data point history has not been updated in the expected amount of time, including a tolerance or buffer. The data point will display the “Error” status badge in the individual point within the Data Reliability section and on the Data Management screen.

A point that has Data Reliability settings and has not been updated in the expected amount of time is given a status of "Error".

A point that has the Data Reliability settings but is updating regularly within the expected amount of time is given a status of “Normal”.

A point that does not have the Data Reliability settings inputted is not given a status and will not be included in the data reliability report.

Removing Data Reliability Settings

The data reliability settings can be removed from a data point if necessary. This might be required for manual data points given settings that will no longer update or data points that only contain historical data and will no longer update.

To remove the settings, go to the Actions menu within the detailed screen of the data point and select "Edit Data Reliability Settings".

From here the user can edit the settings applied or simply remove all settings by clicking the "Delete Settings" button.

The user will be asked to confirm the action.

Once the user clicks "Delete" the settings will be completely removed from the Data Point. They can always be readded if necessary by following the earlier setps.

Snooze Alerts

The user also has the ability to “Snooze Alerts” for data points that are in “Error”. The user selects a date that they wish the alerts to be silenced until. The date is selected using a date picker.

Once the Snooze Until date is passed, the point will no longer be snoozed and will be included in the status check for data points.

This allows points to be ignored until a specific date that known issues are planned to be rectified. This is mostly for when work is being carried out on a site and large sections of control or metering systems will be down for a period of time, and therefore the data is not being collected on site.

Data Reliability Report

Each day a report will be generated that will include a list of all points with an “Error” status. The report will be sent via email to all users who have subscribed to the report.

The email includes a count of points that are in the Error state, a short list of points that are in Error and a link back to CPOS to allow the recipient to investigate issues further. The full list of points in Error will also be included as an attachment to the email in CSV format.

Manage Subscribers

Users can be added to the report via “Manage Subscribers”. This is currently limited to CoolPlant users only.

Manage Subscribers can be accessed via the Actions Menu on the Data Management screen. Simply select a user from the dropdown menu and then click "Ok" to close the modal window. The selected users will receive the Data Reliability Report on a daily basis.
