A DataSource column within Explore gets data from a DataSource within CoolPlanet OS, leading users to update charts, calculations and DataGrids smoothly.

1. Identify the DataSource column

Identify the column on which you would like to replace the DataSource.

2. Choose Replace DataSource

Choose the Replace DataSource option in the column's context menu.

3. Find a DataSource and Select

Find a DataSource in the Replace DataSource window and click on it.

Tip: You can use filters to narrow down your filtered results to make it easier to locate the DataSource.

4. Verify and Confirm

DataSources can only be replaced with other DataSources of the same Kind. However, they can be replaced with a DataSource of a different Quantity.

a. Same Quantity

All modifications to the DataSource column, which may have been done in the Column properties, are retained. (e.g. Unit, Fold).

b. Different Quantity

All modifications to the DataSource column, which may have been done in the Column properties, are reset to defaults. (e.g. Unit, Fold)

4. Done!

The replaced DataSource is now the source of data for the column and all charts that use the column.

Bonus

While it may seem simple, here are a few benefits of using this feature:

  1. All charts using one or more columns that are impacted by replacing a DataSource get updated automatically. This allows you to duplicate a DataGrid and update a whole set of charts with minimal clicks.

  2. All your calculations using the column on the DataGrid are updated and use the newly replaced DataSource to arrive at the results.
