DataSources names are compiled from a combination of Site and Attributes or Site, Asset and Attributes. This can lead to pretty long names, and users tend to rename them.

We are now introducing a feature to help you choose a format for your column title as you import DataSources removing the need to shorten your column titles. (You can still rename them from the column properties panel.)

Step 1 - Find your DataSource

Bring up the Find DataSources panel by clicking the Add Column > DataSource Column option in the GridBar. Find the DataSource you want by using the filters or the DataSource Name search.

Step 2 - Choose a Column Format

Please choose one of the five available column formats to preview the resulting column title.

Tip: The format you choose before clicking on the DataSource is the one that is applied. So, you can add the same DataSource multiple times using different column title formats.

1. Asset Name Only

Drops the "Site Name" and "Attribute Name" portions of the DataSource name. Only the "Asset Name" is shown in the Column Title Preview.

2. Attribute Name Only

Drops the "Site Name" and "Asset Name" portions of the DataSource name. Only the "Attribute Name" is shown in the Column Title Preview.

3. Asset Name + Attribute Name

Drops the "Site Name" portion of the DataSource name. Only the "Attribute Name" and "Asset Name" are shown in the Column Title Preview.

This is the default option selected when a Find DataSource panel is brought up the first time.

4. Site Name + Attribute Name

Drops the "Asset Name" portion of the DataSource name. Only the "Site Name" and "Asset Name" are shown in the Column Title Preview.

5. Unchanged DataSource Name

Retains the DataSource’s name when inserted into the DataGrid, without any changes to the column title. The column title preview is hidden since it is not applicable.

Step 3 - Add a DataSource by clicking on it

Clicking on a DataSource will add it to the DataGrid. The column title reflects the Column Title format chosen by you.

Example

The same DataSouce was Added in 5 different title formats into the DataGrid.

Tip: As Chart legends take up the same name as Column Titles when they are created, the format flows to charts too.
