When creating a Headline Figure visualisation/widget in explore, you can choose to populate it with data taken from a column or single value data and you might wonder, what is a single value calculation and when should I use it?

Explore/Single Value Calculation

Single Value Calculations allow Datagrid column values to be folded into single value outputs which can then be used in calculations. This allows column fold-based KPI calculations to be accurately and consistently reported across a range of time granularities. These single-value calculations are performed once for the entire time range rather than for every row. The full range of folds is available including sum, average, median, min, max, first, last and count.

Examples of KPIs enabled by single-value calculations include:

  • Electricity vehicle efficiency: Electric vehicle efficiency for a time period can be calculated by summing the distance covered by the vehicle during the period and dividing it by the sum of the electricity used in the period.

  • Average energy consumed by a process: The average energy consumed by a process can be calculated by summing the energy used during the period and dividing it by the count of the times the process was run during the period.

  • Electric Vehicle Fleet average electricity consumption: The average electricity consumption for a fleet of vehicles can be calculated by summing the electricity consumption of the vehicles and dividing by the number of vehicles in the fleet.
