X-axis bands allow you to display a boolean or string based datasource as vertical bands in the background of a combo chart. This is useful for displaying data like which SKU was in production or what the external weather was like outside during the time range the combo chart is displaying. X-axis bands work in the same way as boolean and string bars in combo charts, but are extended to the full vertical height of the combo chart.

Chart showing X-axis vertical bands of the weather condition

Do enable X-axis bands, edit the combo chart in explore, and click the “Chart Design Mode” button. Once in the Chart Design Mode, select the column for the data you want to make into vertical bands from the drop down menu by clicking the column name. If the datasource used for that column is of kind Boolean of String, then the “X-Axis Bands” option will be displayed to display the column as vertical bands. Click the selection box beside "X-Axis Bands" to display this column as vertical bands.

X-Axis Bands configuration

If another column is already being displayed as vertical bands you will be shown a confirmation message asking if you ware sure you want to replace the column being displayed as vertical bands. Click "Replace" to replace the original column with the new column. Once the chart is fully configured, click “Save Chart Design” to apply your changes.
