The breadth of geospatial data available to download and apply in our platform is one of our proudest achievements. This article gives a quick introduction into the Explorer, and how to download and apply datasets seamlessly.
Note: The Categories folder structure and available datasets will vary based on your region and permission configuration - so if the screenshots in this article look different to your map, don't worry!
If you prefer video-based learning, here's a video which walks through the steps in this tutorial:
Introducing... the Explorer!
As you load into the mapping tool, this is the first interface you'll see. Datasets are categorised into folders which helps with navigation.
To download and apply a dataset, either utilise the search bar at the top of the categories and enter the dataset name, or collapse the folder(s) required. Let's take a look at an example of visualising some Postcode Domestic Electricity Consumption data:
Downloading a dataset is quite literally as simple as a click of a mouse! Click the download icon next to a dataset to download it and once complete the data will apply to the map.
You can now toggle this on/off by either un-ticking the checkbox next to the dataset, or by navigating to the 'Layers' tab and clicking the eye symbol next to the desired dataset to hide it. Click on a polygon to view the data for that region.
We hope this helps! Check out more articles in our 'The basics' collection for guidance on getting started.
