What is the earliest Start Date for employees?

When hiring through Remote People, setting the correct employee start date is an important part of ensuring a smooth and compliant onboarding process.

As your Employer of Record (EOR), Remote People must follow local labor laws in each country. Because these regulations vary, start dates cannot always be immediate and may depend on country-specific requirements.

Additionally, most countries do not allow backdated employment contracts, which means start dates must always be set in the future.

Start Date Selection Guidelines

To support compliance and payroll processing, our platform applies the following rules when selecting a start date:

  • From the 1st to the 14th of the month
→ The earliest available start date is one day after the current date

  • From the 15th to the end of the month
→ The earliest available start date is the 1st of the following month

These guidelines help ensure that onboarding can be completed properly and in line with local regulations.

Payroll Cut-Off Dates

To include a new employee in the current month’s payroll, onboarding must be fully completed by the 15th of the month.

If onboarding is finalized after this date:

  • The employee will be included in the following month’s payroll

Making Changes to a Start Date

If you need to adjust a start date, this should be discussed during the onboarding process.

Your regional onboarding specialist will:

  • Review the requested change

  • Ensure it complies with local labor laws

  • Support you in making any necessary updates
