How will an EPA exam be taken?

L
Written by Lucy Kelford

End-Point Assessment (EPA) exams are typically delivered in a controlled and invigilated environment to ensure the integrity and validity of the assessment.

Primary Method: Online Exams (Surpass System)

  • Most EPA exams are conducted online using the Surpass assessment system

  • These exams are:

    • Sat on a computer or suitable device

    • Invigilated in person by an invigilator arranged and sent by EAL

The invigilator is responsible for:

  • Verifying the learner’s identity

  • Ensuring exam conditions are maintained

  • Monitoring the assessment to prevent malpractice

Alternative Method: Paper-Based Exams

In certain circumstances, exams may be delivered as paper-based assessments.

This option is typically only used where:

  • All technical troubleshooting for the online exam has been exhausted

  • A reasonable adjustment is in place that cannot be accommodated within the online system

Any decision to deliver a paper-based exam will be reviewed and agreed in advance.

Important Considerations

  • Regardless of the format, all exams must be completed under controlled conditions

  • Providers should ensure that:

    • Suitable facilities are available for the exam

    • Learners are prepared for the format they will be using
