What evidence is needed to support a reasonable adjustment request?

To approve a reasonable adjustment for End-Point Assessment (EPA), EAL must be satisfied that the request is appropriate, justified, and reflective of the apprentice’s normal way of working.

Evidence Requirements

Training providers must supply evidence that clearly demonstrates:

  • The apprentice has a recognised learning difficulty, disability, or need

  • The requested adjustment is necessary to support fair assessment

  • The adjustment reflects the apprentice’s usual way of working during their training

This ensures that any adjustments made during EPA maintain the validity, reliability, and integrity of the assessment.

Acceptable Forms of Evidence

Evidence can be provided in a variety of formats, as long as it is formal and verifiable. Examples include:

  • A Form 8 (or equivalent) completed by a SENCo or qualified professional

  • A doctor’s note or medical report

  • An educational psychologist’s assessment

  • Other official documentation confirming the apprentice’s needs

The evidence should clearly outline both the nature of the condition and the support requirements.

What Is Not Acceptable

  • A self-declaration by the apprentice alone is not sufficient

  • Informal statements without supporting documentation will not be accepted

EAL must be able to independently verify the need for any adjustment.

Important Considerations

  • Evidence should be current and relevant to the apprentice’s needs

  • The requested adjustment must be consistent with the support already provided during the programme

  • Requests without sufficient evidence may be delayed or refused
