Can EAL claim the certificate of a standard where the operational end date has passed?

Written by Lucy Kelford

Yes, in certain circumstances EAL can still support the claiming of a certificate even if the operational end date for a standard has passed.

Eligibility for Certificate Claims

This applies where:

  • The learner has completed their End-Point Assessment (EPA)

  • The final result was released before the operational end date of the standard

In these cases, the learner remains eligible for certification, despite the standard no longer being operational.

Process for Claiming the Certificate

Where certification is required after the operational end date:

  • An EPA Coordinator will:

    • Contact the Apprenticeship Assessment Service (AAS) Support team

    • Request extended access to allow the certificate to be claimed

This ensures that learners who have successfully completed their EPA are not disadvantaged by administrative cut-off dates.

Important Considerations

  • Certificates can only be claimed if the learner’s result was confirmed before the operational end date

  • If results were not released in time, additional steps or exceptions may be required and are not guaranteed

  • Providers should ensure all gateway, assessment, and documentation processes are completed promptly to avoid delays
