This guidance will help you through your journey, as a Welsh Centre, to make an exam booking for a learner who has met all required pre-requisites, to take a Professional Discussion exam.
⚠️ Important – Employer Confirmation & Pre‑Requisites
The Centre must ensure the following requirements are fully met before booking the Professional Discussion:
✅ Employer Confirmation is completed and recorded for each learner
✅ Practical Project assessment has been completed
The Employer Confirmation form provides EAL with verification of these mandatory steps, as outlined in the qualification manual.
It may be returned to the Centre:
To address any actions relating to Employer Confirmation, or
As confirmation of successful EQA quality checks, to be uploaded as evidence
📌 Centre Responsibility:
The Centre must upload the ‘Employer Confirmation Form’ (from the Employer Confirmation Guide) into Smarter Booking as evidence to progress the learner.

Important:
If any issues relating to Employer Confirmation are identified and not resolved before requesting the external assessment booking, this may result in delays to the learner’s timely completion.
Step 1: Registering the learner
Customers must register on the online services portal before proceeding with a booking request.
This registration will create a booking lock and transfer it to the centre.
An invoice is automatically raised at this stage.
Step 2: Access Smarter Booking:
Once a registration has been made in Online Service, log into Smarter Booking via the EAL Connect portal and navigate to the 'Learners' section.
Search for the learner using their family name or learner ID.
Select the learner and navigate to the 'Bookings' tab.
Step 3: Assessment Planning
Select Assessment Planning in the External Assessment Overview.
Complete the Assessment Planning form
Save all the changes you have made in the Assessment Planning form.
Next, got to the Candidate details tab and enter grading view.
When in grading view, select ‘Other requests’ in the Practical Project section
Step 4: Submitting Required Documents
After selecting ‘Other requests’ in the Practical Project section, you will see the following screen
Upload the Employer Confirmation Guide and relevant evidence.
Upload the Practical Project Component evidence.
If applicable, submit a Reasonable Adjustment Request, in the RA tab, with supporting documents.
Step 5: Confirm Evidence Submission
Ensure that the required documents are uploaded and marked as ‘Achieved.’
Click ‘Save Changes’ to confirm submission.
