What is moderation of centre marked assessments?

Moderation is used to ensure that assessment staff are making accurate and consistent judgements against the learning outcomes, and assessment judgements made for any learner are accurate, fair, and comparable with those made for all other learners.

EAL will provide requirements for moderation staff to ensure that those who conduct this function are appropriately trained, attend regular standardisation, and have the occupational technical competence for the units they are moderating.

It will be the responsibility of the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) who is signing off the outcomes to ensure moderation staff meet this requirement and conflicts of interest are considered and moderation activities are recorded on EAL documents and made available when claims are submitted or upon request from EAL.

EAL will provide templated moderation recording documents and claims result sheets that will form part of the IQA records to be retained for 3 years from certification by the Centre and made available to EAL on request.

Failure to conduct moderation in line with EAL requirements and record the outcomes accurately will result in delays to learner claims.
